The clock is ticking
death approaches
I breathe in deeply
the universe bathes my heart
while a dog barks
from across the creek.
I do battle
persistent and slow
as a snail
eating the lettuce
and even the marigolds,
my trail a silver thread
reflecting the morning sun.
