Sparring With Beatnik Ghosts (Round 47): Love vs Eros
by Lynn Rogers and Bea Garth
——–
Daniel Yaryan’s “Sparring With Beatnik Ghosts” round 47 will focus on the theme “Love vs Eros” in San Jose at the Camden Community Center February 7th, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. Featured authors include Bea Garth, Jerry Kamstra, Alfred Preciado, host Lynn Rogers, Katherine Wilson and Daniel Yaryan with more special guest authors to follow.
Arrive early and you will hear Chris Arcus play his acoustic experimental jazz guitar (as well as during the intermission).
The address is: 3369 Union Ave., San Jose, CA 95124. The reading will be in the Camden Community Center room #5, off the patio. The parking lot is free. The event costs a nominal $1.00 to cover the cost of the room, although more generous donations to help promote these events are encouraged. “Sparring With Beatnik Ghosts” anthologies edited by Daniel Yaryan may be available for sale as well as books by other featured readers.
There will also be Valentine’s snacks and treats.
Come listen to noted Bay “Area authors on the subject of love inspired by the fabled Beat Generation. We will be gathering on the eve of antihero Neal Cassaday’s birthday. Neal once lived in San Jose where he sparked authors including Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsburg, Carolyn Cassady and Ann Murphy.
Host Lynn Rogers and co-host Bea Garth will talk briefly about the Beat and Post Beat counterculture ethos between the sexes, whether it was caveman misogyny or a new kind of passion and love. Its just possible Ann Murphy will show up for the reading! If she does, what better expert than she, since she was there in the thick of it during the 1950’s writing, traveling with and sharing in all aspects of what made the Beats beat–including exploring the theme “Love vs Eros.”
This may be the beginning of further local literary get togethers for featured readers with open mike at the Center. Please contact us to let us know if you are interested in participating in these readings at the Camden Community Center up through May.
